Californian legends THE MISUNDERSTOOD should need no real introduction here, their incredible story having been told in great detail in more recent years, but to summarise, they started out as a decent (if fairly typical) Riverside, California garage band in the mid-60s. Here, they were discovered by equally legendary DJ John Peel (then working in the US as John Ravenscroft). Having cut a few recordings locally, the band relocated to the UK in June 1966 on Peel’s recommendation. There, with pedal steel maestro Glenn Campbell onboard, and recruiting ex-Answers guitarist Tony Hill (to replace the departed Greg Treadway), they entered London's innovative underground scene, blew everyone's minds with their devastating proto-psych approach and came to an abrupt end within just a few short months, thanks to label indifference and the dreaded draft...
Backtracking to 1965, the 2 sides contained herein were taped at a local studio, William Locy Sound Company. "She Got Me" dates from a 20th December session, and was a tough remake of a track they'd originally cut the previous summer, at the same time as "Cryin' Over Luv". Both sides benefit from a fresh remaster especially for vinyl, courtesy of Californian archivist, Alec Palao.
