'SlyDee' is the new project from bassist and producer Sylvain Daniel and draws on his deepest influences.

As an instrumentalist, he is an indispensable figure on the modern jazz scene (you'll find him as bassist with Thomas de Pourquery, Laurent Bardainne & Tigre d'Eau Douce, both released on 29 March 2024... Julien Lourau, the electric experiments of Yom...) and an invaluable ingredient in pop production (his bass lines can be found on albums by Jeanne Added 'Air & By Your Side', Jain 'The Roof', Redcar 'Les adorables étoiles', musical director of Camélia Jordana 'Facile x Fragile'...).

As a composer and leader, Sylvain Daniel has already made a name for himself with 'Palimpseste', his project on Detroit (already Choc Jazz Magazine and ffff Télérama and in the selection of albums of the year 2018) proclaiming his love for music from the Motor City (from jazz to house via soul and hip-hop) and above all crying out for the beauty and urgency of the arts and creation in an industrial world in decline. Then, in 2020, with 'Pauca Meae' (Choc: Jazz Magazine, ffff Télérama), written for actor, electric quartet and string quartet and set to music Book IV of Victor Hugo's contemplations; a precious UFO of record production bringing together the electric energies of Miles Davis, the saturated spleen of Nirvana and classical writing inspired by Gabriel Fauré.

It's now as producer that Sylvain shines on his third album. SlyDee's third album is a musical exposé in which he invokes his founding pillars without artifice: The great black music of Prince, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Chic, Sly & the Family Stone... an immoderate taste for the instrumental hip-hop of Slum Village & J-Dilla, the acidic post-punk synthesizers of Talking Heads & Joy Division and the electric, libertarian jazz of Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis... A delightful cocktail, giving pride of place to groove and collective sound, and giving this new group, made up of musicians renowned for their improvisational talents, an immense amount of space to play.

Sylvain Daniel has built his own dream team around this very specific musical universe. Long-time friends Vincent Taeger on drums (Tiger Tigre, Poni Hoax, Les Sacre, Tony Allen, Sébastien Tellier, Oxmo Puccino...) and Arnaud Roulin on synthesizers (Tigre d'Eau Douce, Supersonic, Poni Hoax, solo...). And new collaborations with Bruno Ruder on piano and fender Rhodes (Yes is a pleasant country, duo w/ Jeanne Added...) and avant-garde trumpeter Aymeric Avice (Pomme de Terre, Jean-Louis...).
