Born in England, Annie Ross (1930- 2020) was one of the early practitioners of a singing style known as vocalese, which involves the setting of original lyrics to an instrumental jazz solo. She is best remembered for her participation in a vocal trio with Dave Lambert and Jon Hendricks. Recorded in 1957-58, Annie Ross Sings a Song with Mulligan presents her backed by a wonderful quartet including jazz stars Gerry Mulligan, Art Farmer and Chet Baker.
