Edith Piaf, byname of Edith Giovanna Gassion, (born December 19, 1915, Paris, France - died October 10, 1963, Plascassier, France), French singer and actress whose interpretation of the chanson, or French ballad, made her internationally famous. Among her trademark songs were “Non, je ne regrette rien” and “La Vie en rose”.
