In the past four years Fabian Dudek has received a lot of attention, especially with his quartet (with Felix Hauptmann, Fabian Arends, David Helm). The Frankfurter Rundschau, for example, summed up: "...[finds] with his stubborn conception of free jazz a captivatingly skillful balance between [...] energetically pointed playing styles and a sound language that is also formally mastered." Listening to Protecting A Picture.... may not necessarily exercise the body, but the mind is undoubtedly energized by the music, which is as clever as it is vital. The fact that it effortlessly jumps over traditional genre fences doesn't need to be mentioned; this generation is socialized with a wide variety of styles anyway and knows how to strike sparks from them. With their impressive album Fabian Dudek and La Campagne set an award-worthy sign in the European landscape of contemporary jazz.
