During Jim White's early tours, a young man from Seattle introduced himself at one of the gigs and said he was a fan of Jim's debut album, Wrong Eyed Jesus. From the beginning, Tucker and Jim developed a musical friendship, and when Jim mentioned his desire to record a side project album of obscure songs he had written that didn't really fit with his main body of work, Tucker jumped in and offered his services for free. As a result, Tucker flew to Jim "s hometown and the recording began. The end result was "Permanent Stranger", recorded under the band name Mama Lucky. They enlisted Panhandle blues legend Linda Delgado on vocals as well as a number of local musicians. Tucker then took the tracks back to Seattle and continued to work on them, assisted by a team of stellar studio artists including Eyvind Kang and Steve Moore. The end result was a dreamy sonic freak show.
