In the early 1970s, British guitarist and songwriter Mick Clarke made rock history with the British psychedelic blues band Killing Floor. The band's second album, “Out of Uranus” (1970), is considered a milestone in the genre. However, the band broke up again in 1972. After a stint with Daddy Longlegs, who were signed to Vertigo and Polydor, Mick Clarke continued with SALT. SALT was mainly active live, including at the Reading Festival, and toured with Muddy Waters. In the early 1980s, SALT became the Mick Clarke Band. The prolific guitarist recorded albums both with the band (including for the German label Line Records) and as a solo artist, and toured mainly in the USA with Howlin' Wolf, Freddie King, and Otis Spann.

In February 2026, a performance by the Mick Clarke Band from the Römer in Bremen in 1989 will be released on CD and digitally. Alongside Mick Clarke, Kerry Canfield (keys, vocals), Chris Lloyd-Baron (harp), Mick Phillips (bass, vocals), and Mike Hirsh (drums) also made an appearance. The program: flawless, British-influenced blues rock with a slightly dirty, rough touch. In addition to compositions by Mick Clarke, there are numbers by Freddie King, John Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon, and Elmore James. The rocking, swinging, somewhat playful version of the Leiber/Stoller classic “Kansas City” is also outstanding!
