SUPPOSE BEAUTIFUL MADELINE HARVEY is composed by Travis Just and is the musical component of Object Collection’s collaboration with legendary experimental theater icon Richard Foreman.
The album was captured live (with no overdubs or edits) during Object Collection’s sold-out run of ten performances in December 2024 at NYC’s legendary East Village theater La MaMa.
A paper-thin love story within a paper-thin world, speeding, so it would seem, towards inevitable catastrophe… or perhaps, a very serious twist.
Using Foreman’s ecstatic, labyrinthine text as the rhythmic source for all vocal and instrumental material, Just scores the voices in a kind of notated speech that ducks and weaves through the dense sound world. The instrumental ensemble performs a high-wire act of a through-composed score, stuffed with bubbling synths, stuttering drum machines, processed woodwinds, and heavy guitars.
Acclaimed for their invigorating blend of music and theater, Object Collection got their start over twenty years ago in Foreman’s own Ontological-Hysteric Theater. Foreman passed away in January 2025, just two weeks after this production closed. Suppose Beautiful Madeline Harvey extends Richard Foreman’s legacy to a new generation of experimentalists.
