Reinier Baas (1985) is a guitarist, composer and recording artist from the Netherlands with a DIY approach and an idiosyncratic body of work. His latest records include ‘Mokum In Hi-Fi’ (2019), with long-time collaborator Ben van Gelder, and ‘Smash Hits’ (2018), with van Gelder and the grammy-winning Metropole Orkest. His critically acclaimed ‘mostly instrumental opera’ from 2016, entitled ‘Reinier Baas vs. Princess Discombobulatrix’, and his 2012 record ‘Mostly Improvised Instrumental Indie Music’ both earned him an Edison Award.
More recently he released two albums with Kit Downes and Jonas Burgwinkel as Deadeye and released a series of four EPs called #oneminuteradio, each containing ten one-minute-long compositions resulting in some of his most wildly varied output to date.
This April sees the release of his newest full-length album: Relief Party. Dance music for odd people, written in a long-forgotten era where your spouse was your hairdresser and toilet paper was a national obsession. A celebration of life, of the collective human experience and, above all, of a new record featuring Europe's finest avant-jazz misfits. With contributions from a stellar lineup including Louis Cole, Ben van Gelder, Joris Roelofs, Kit Downes, and a host of other brilliant musicians, Relief Party emerges as a distinctive and captivating addition to Reinier Baas's ever-evolving discography.
