Adir Jan presents his second album, Al Mast, five years after his acclaimed debut, Leyla. The Berlin-based singer-songwriter with Kurdish roots remains true to his style: he calls his unique blend of oriental tradition, psychedelic rock, indie pop, and poetic bard culture “cosmopolitan Kurdesque.”
His songs—sung in Zaza, Kurmancî, Turkish, and other languages—tell of queer love, pain, lust, and social rebellion. Al Mast is a musical cry against homophobia, racism, and war— carried by Adir Jan's clear voice and accompanied by instruments such as the tembûr, violin, kanun, and electric guitar. The songs are bittersweet, driving and melancholic – an invitation to dream, dance and reflect. With ‘Al Mast’, Adir Jan creates a transcultural sound universe that builds bridges between East and West, between tradition and modernity, between hearts and souls.
