Katagory V are a progressive power metal band from Salt Lake City, Utah. Formed in early 1999, they have released five studio albums to date: “Present Day"(2001) was followed by ‘A New Breed Of Rebellion’ (2004), ‘The Rising Anger’ (2006), ‘Hymns Of Dissension’ (2007) and finally ‘Resurrect The Insurgence’ (2015). Now the group has signed a contract with High Roller Records, the first result of which is the brand new work “Awaken A New Age Of Chaos”. The record was recorded by Dustin Mitchell (bass), Curtis Morrell (guitar) and Matt Suiter (drums), all part of the original line-up, plus vocalist Albert Rybka and new addition Dan Coxey on second guitar. The album was recorded at Streamline Studio in Salt Lake City and produced by the band themselves. Alan Douches (Fates Warning, Cannibal Corpse) was responsible for the mastering. With riff monsters like “Empire Of Ignorance” and “Blood Siphon” or melodic tracks like “Absolute Divide” or “Through Fate's Eyes”, “Awaken A New Age Of Chaos” turns out to be a masterpiece of modern progressive power metal. In the past, Katagory V have often been compared to Fates Warning, Queensryche, Hades, Sanctuary and Lethal. According to bassist and founding member Dustin Mitchell, this is certainly true: “The bands I mentioned have undoubtedly influenced us. But also a lot of speed, thrash and doom bands from the late eighties and early nineties. Plus old-school thrash metal groups - Realm, Death Angel, Helstar, Flotsam & Jetsam and Atrophy - and also harder melodic hard rock formations, especially from Germany, I'm thinking of Bonfire or Jaded Heart.” This should give all those who are not yet familiar with Katagory V a good impression of what the band sounds like. All in all, the new work “Awaken A New Age Of Chaos” is characterized by a surprisingly dark mood: “Oh yes, I definitely agree with that,” confirms Dustin Mitchell. “This record is much darker and angrier than anything we've done in the past, with the possible exception of our second album. We've taken some low blows over the course of our career, which is why the band has been on ice for the last ten years. So it's only natural that the anger from that has found expression in our new music."
