Vibraphone & trombone – a duo full of timbre, depth, and surprise: What may seem unusual at first glance immediately makes musical sense: vibraphone and trombone – played by Christopher Olesch and Erik Konertz – merge into a colorful, finely nuanced soundscape on their debut album New Places. The two musicians share a long-standing friendship that began in the music room of a school in Oldenburg – today they live and work in Hamburg and are among the most exciting voices on the young North German jazz scene. New Places is a journey through emotional landscapes, memories, and turning points. The pieces tell of inner states, not external places – sometimes playful, sometimes thoughtful, sometimes expressive. Olesch and Konertz switch seamlessly between roles, accompanying, challenging, and leaving space. Their music thrives on contrasts, improvisation, and a deep mutual familiarity. With great stylistic openness and improvisational finesse, the two move between groove, avantgarde, and lyrical intimacy. The result is a dialogue that touches, surprises, and inspires—jazz in its most vibrant form.
