After taping six albums as a leader for the Prestige label between 1959 and 1961, saxophonist/composer Oliver Nelson recorded this, his breakthrough LP, 'The Blues and the Abstract Truth', produced by Creed Taylor for Impulse! Records. The album features jazz luminaries Freddie Hubbard, Eric Dolphy, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers and Roy Haynes, and contains the hit tune "Stolen Moments", now considered a jazz standard.
