The Miles Davis' quintet with John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones was formed in 1955 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest combos in jazz history. Like its 1956 followers Steamin', Workin' , Relaxin', and Cookin', 'Miles' is the product of massively productive recording sessions, which ended his obligations with Prestige Records to join Columbia with an already produced session, namely the quintets 'Round About Midnight, released in March of 1957.
