The original album + 2 bonus tracks - limited edition pressing on 180g vinyl. Originally issued on Savoy as 'Jazz Mood' and retitled here as 'Blues In Space', this superb album was Yusef Lateef's (1920 - 2013) debut album as a leader with tracks compiled from his second studio date for the label. From the first studio date, which took place just four days before, two tracks have been added to this edition as a bonus. Both dates present the same personnel; trombonist Curtis Fuller, pianist Hugh Lawson, bassist Ernie Farrow (Alice Coltrane's brother), and drummer Louis Hayes.
It is documented that Lateef was one of the first creators of world-music" and spiritual-jazz long before they existed as credited genres. His use of such instruments as argol, rabat and finger cymbals heard here on Jazz Mood, put in evidence his interest in Middle Eastern music even at this early stage of his career.
