Already three decades old, this debut album from Thus Defiled has definitely stood the test of time. The blasphemous combination of death and black metal these Brits presented sounds as impressive today as it did in the mid-nineties. At the time of its release "Through the impure veil of dawn" hardly received any recognition, because of the tiny label it was released on and because, well, it wasn't Norwegian. This re-issue will set things right. This album is one of the darkest and most aggressive CD's of the second wave of black metal. The music is a really brutal blend of heavy mid-tempo parts and fast outbursts with growling death grunts, black metal shrieks and whispered vocals. Keyboards are only to provide a dark foreboding atmosphere, they certainly do not dominate the music. Thus Defiled maybe sound like a mixture of early Immortal, Dark Throne, Vital Remains and Cradle Of Filth! Remastered plus bonus tracks
