BOSKAT is a super-energetic duo that seamlessly blends seriously impressive riffs reminiscent of Rage Against The Machine and Billy Talent with a crushingly virtuosic live show and a great sense of humor. Now, it's time for their debut album 'Welcome to Planet Urmit,' set to release on March 15, 2024 on Suburban Records.
Based in Belgium, BOSKAT made a significant impact in 2018 with their extensive Popronde tour, concluding with a final party at Melkweg, Amsterdam. In 2019, the band released their self-titled EP and toured Belgium and the Netherlands, culminating in a sold-out EP release at V11, Rotterdam. Their popularity soared with singles like 'Afterglow,' 'Dog Song,' and 'Rip-Off.' They shared the stage with Zornik in a sold-out AB, Brussels, and performed with Heideroosjes at a sold-out Trix, Antwerp.
In 2023, BOSKAT signed with the Dutch indie label Suburban Records (The Sore Losers, Bad Nerves, Tusky). Leading up to the debut album, they released the singles 'Stick To Your Guns,' 'Heresy,' and 'It's All The Same.'
Now it's time for BOSKAT's debut album: 'Welcome to Planet Urmit.' Although known for their energetic virtuoso rock duo performances, their first full-length album also explores various vibes and genres. ""The goal was to create a record that doesn’t get boring - I think we succeeded! You can hear characteristics from (post)grunge, hip-hop, nu-metal, punk rock, prog rock… and more. There are Easter eggs for every rock fan!"" frontman Vincent explains.
An example of one of these excursions is the track 'Boiler,' featuring Rudeboy from Urban Dance Squad. This collaboration was a dream come true, Vincent says, ""Rudeboy has the perfect voice for BOSKAT's hard riffs. The fact that we are now able to make this dream come true is incredible. Pat (Rudeboy) is a very pleasant man to work with; he was super down to earth and willing. What a hero! Thank you, Rudeboy!”
The album was recorded by Tom Lodewyckx (STAKE) and Stef Exelmans (BEAR, Fleddy Melculy) and partly in the band's own 'vanbulance': an old converted ambulance, now serving as a tour bus and mobile recording studio. ""Most of the album was recorded either at Tom Lodewyckx's home or Stef Exelmans' home! I guess we just enjoy visiting people! If we are not welcome, we record things in our vanbulance.""
Aside from their outstanding compositions, the band is renowned for their electrifying live shows, as it's quite astonishing to witness a duo create such a colossal sound. They employ various tricks, including a setup that allows them to send one instrument to multiple amps.
