The Beatles recorded seven songs for BBC’s Saturday Club on the evening of March 31st 1964, three of which were covers of American rock’nroll and country and western songs. The final portion of the show was also broadcast on BBC’s General Overseas Service. Earlier on the same day, the group had been filming a live performance at the Scala Theatre in Kings Cross that would be included in their forthcoming film A Hard Day’s Night. (The fourth track on this EP, The Hippy Hippy Shake is taken from the Saturday Club show transmitted on February 15th).
