Anne Briggs' eponymous debut album is widely regarded as a landmark in any folk collection. Originally released on Topic Records in 1971, it features Briggs' signature songs, including "Blackwater Slide," which she famously taught Bert Jansch (for his album Self-Portrait [Jack Orion]), and "Go Your Way," which she co-wrote with Jansch. In 2023, "lost tapes" containing four previously unreleased recordings from the album sessions were rediscovered in the Topic vaults. This reissue will feature four additional tracks.
Anne Briggs never sought commercial success or widespread public recognition for her music, but she was a major influence in the British Folk Revival and was a source of inspiration for the songs and music of A.L. Lloyd, Bert Jansch, Jimmy Page, Sandy Denny and Richard Thompson.
