KODAMA AND THE DUB STATION BAND is a band led by Kazufumi Kodama, an original member of the pioneering Japanese dub group Mute Beat, which helped shape the dub scene in Japan after debuting in 1986 with Roir in New York. This album is a collection of cover songs the band has performed live, following the highly acclaimed release of their first original album Kasuka na Kibou in 2019. Featured tracks include famous anti-war song "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?", standard numbers such as "Fly Me To the Moon" and "Moon River," reggae classics like "Is This Love" and "Africa" as well as the Mute Beat era song "Every Day." Also included is a version of Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World" sung by ARIWA, who is active in the Japanese reggae band Asound, and a stunning dub arrangement of the theme from the famous Japanese anime GeGeGe no Kitaro, created by Shigeru Mizuki. At the heart of this rich lineup is Kodama’s trumpet, which imbues the tracks with a unique, melancholic resonance, while the band’s more refined ensemble brings new life to these familiar songs. This album offers a fresh and captivating take on these classic tracks, offering listeners a distinct experience from their original compositions.
