Back in the 90s, the Japanese hip-hop scene was flush with ambitious rappers, lit-up and energized, spitting verses irrespective of their shadow in the west’s gaze. One such hip-hop record, and a classic in the P-VINE discography, is Libro’s debut album Taidou. To mark 25 years since its first release, P-VINE will be reissuing Taidou for the first time on vinyl format. Across these ten tracks, Libro’s rapping is always on point - his high-energy rhythms imposing addictive authority and control. Production from DJ Tonk is effortlessly aligned with the 90s under his belt, and album highlight ‘Taiwa’ prophesizes the future of J hip-hop with stripped-down sampling, and sounds refreshingly current. This is definitely one not to miss for the hip-hop heads.
