mclusky are a band who were a band, weren’t a band, and are a band again. They originally formed in the late 1990s and first disbanded in 2005 after releasing three albums, opinions of which can still easily be found on the internet.
The path to becoming a band again began in 2014, when they started playing sporadic shows to raise money for a local venue threatened with closure. After a series of misadventures best attributed to life in its many wonderful forms, the band returned with their first new record in twenty years in 2025. Now, in 2026, they continue their resurgence with this six-song mini album.
The timing of this release coincides with a Spring 2026 U.S. tour, following a January Australian run and extensive global touring throughout the past year. The band’s return has been met with renewed excitement, particularly from the press. NPR praised their sound as “progressive, weird, snotty post-punk with a real sense of humor and grandiosity,” while Pitchfork noted that mclusky remain “famously explosive,” sounding just as noisy on their comeback.
The album features four new songs recorded in Fall 2025, alongside two tracks originally released on their digital-only comeback EP in 2023
