The Montclairs are a five-piece soul vocal group that includes Phil Perry, who is still active as a solo artist. They were born in St. Louis, Missouri, not Philadelphia, New Jersey, Detroit, or Chicago, and they produced a particularly sweet and beautiful chorus centered around Perry's unique falsetto. They were discovered by Oliver Thayne, a big name in the same city, and released an album in 1972 on the prestigious Paula (Jewell) Records, produced by Thayne. The sadness, decadence, and decadence of this album, which is the polar opposite of the brilliance of Philadelphia sweet soul, are something you can't find anywhere else. Starting with the title track, you will be sobbing from the onslaught of tragic masterpieces that you will not be able to escape once you get hooked!!
